Antique East Anatolian Kurdish Rug

$600.00

2650

AGE & ORIGIN:
19th C.
Anatolia

OVERVIEW:
Wonky, imperfect, colorful, beautiful. All hallmarks of the rugs of nomadic Kurds hailing from Eastern Anatolia, all of which, of course, describe this piece. It’s no wonder that in recent times the rugs of East Anatolia have received more attention from collectors broadly, as they offer something (in my opinion) which is depth. It’s what is not revealed at first but makes itself known after time or contemplation of a fine work, which is all the more impressive when taking into account where these rugs come from; humble, nomadic women weaving with imperfect materials, creating some of the most powerfully creative and color weavings there are in the nomadic family of rugs.

In my opinion, a good entry-level piece for those looking to perhaps start collecting East Anatolian Kurdish weavings, especially given the few rows of cotton pile towards the bottom of the rug, and the format clearly indicating a nomadic weave.

CONDITION:
Worn, closing in on wall condition
