Ancient Caucasian Silk Embroidery Fragment

$450.00

2660
8” x 16”

AGE & ORIGIN:
18th C.
Caucuses

OVERVIEW:
Many of the most famous and well-known Caucasian designs were originally developed from silk embroideries like this. This particular piece is displaying part of a design often referred to as the ‘tile’ pattern; a form that would eventually make its way to Alpan Kuba designs and also be represented (although in slightly different form) on Star Kazaks.
It isn’t surprising that something with this age and done in this medium is so fine, but it serves as an excellent marker of its time and as an approachable study piece for those interested in the weaving traditions of the Caucuses.

CONDITION:
Fragile, fragment condition
