Cypress Fereghan Sarouk - 4'3"X6'5"
#2553
4’-2” x 6’-5”
AGE & ORIGIN:
c. 1900
Persia
OVERVIEW:
While many Fereghan rugs share the similar ‘medallion and spandrel’ motif, we loved this one for its divergence from this in favor of a garden theme with cypress trees and vases, leaning into more of the ‘Sarouk’ design elements. These would come later, of course, in the export form we know them today, but it’s fascinating to see earlier versions with a cooler palette and more slightly less ‘floral’ and more arboreal with the addition of trifectas of Cypress trees.
CONDITION:
Some end loss, brittleness in structure of rug, not completely uncommon in Fereghan rugs, but requires the rug only be rolled, never folded. Small slits in field due to this brittleness. Areas of old moth damage
