Decorative Anatolian Rug

$600.00

2674
3’-4” x 4’-10”

AGE & ORIGIN:
1st Q. 20th C.
Anatolia

OVERVIEW:
This rug is a pastiche of every sector of rug interest and history, all completely by accident. Those interested in the collectible elements will most likely immediately be turned off by the presence of at least one synthetic (among other things) but may be intrigued by the design as anything less than 5 botanicals on these begins to be unusual (see the four at the top half). There is also the asymmetry of the mirrored ends, the gap between filled with smaller motifs rather than, say, a mihrab.
As far as the aesthetics go, I personally think this to be quite beautiful. There are sections of obvious repair, re-piling especially that is egregiously poor in color quality, however it has sort of serendipitously made for pleasing and complementary tones to the already-existing aquatic blues and pistachio green.
It’s not the oldest thing in the world, nor is it even the best example, but it sits at an interesting crossroads of something so tampered with that it has entered it’s own attractive realm outside of the nodes by which these things are judged.

CONDITION:
Centrally worn with many repairs and re-piled areas, especially towards the bottom.
