Antique Eagle Karabagh - 4'11" x 7'4"

$1,850.00

#2576
4’-11” x 7’-4”

AGE & ORIGIN:
c. 1900
Caucuses

OVERVIEW:
A fine addition to any aspiring rug connoisseurs burgeoning collection. With the bold and unmistakable creeping medallions, the so-called Eagle Kazak has placed itself squarely within the halls of rug motifs and the crosshairs of collectors.

It should be noted however that the ‘Eagle Kazak’ moniker has its issues, as the the design neither derives from the Imperial Russian eagle seal, as many used to believe, nor does the rug come from the ‘Kazak’ proper region of the Caucuses. Rather, the design is believed to have been derived from older ‘Dragon Carpets’ of the Caucuses, and this type of rug is typically woven right on the border of Kazak, but still technically within the borders of Karabagh.

CONDITION:
The rug inherits a number of old repairs, from re-weaving, patching, re-knotting as well as overcasted ends where the small guard borders are missing from the rug, as well as extensive selvedge repair. We have attempted to document most of these in our photos. The repairs are sound and do not affect the structural integrity of the rug.

NOTES:

  • Small variations in width (~1”-3”)
