Entry-Level Jaf Kurd Bag Face

2’-2” x 2’-6”

AGE & ORIGIN:
c. 1900
Persia

OVERVIEW:
I am always alert to those who are interested in discovering and fostering the hobby of collecting rugs and bags. It’s an underrated one, although many are understandably taken aback by the prices they see. It’s also difficult to know where to begin. What makes a good bag? What makes a good Jaf?
I present this as what I would call an ‘gateway rug’. This Jaf bag face (although most likely Sanjabi), has everything that an aspiring collector looking to get their feet wet would want. The good color often associated with Jafs is the big one. It also has, in my opinion, good rhythm to the field. Not predictable but rather, visually interesting, and in my opinion, a good entry-level bag face.

CONDITION:
Low pile on field, edges and ends worn
