Ersari Tribal Area Rug - 8'0" x 8'10"
#2562
AGE & ORIGIN:
c. 1900
Afghanistan
OVERVIEW:
An Ersari rug in an almost-square format. Rustic charm and just the right amount of wear to show a weathered look without being ragged. Still tribal in nature, yet with slightly more formalized design elements that are appropriate to its age and recognize a certain duality within most of us: the wild creative and the structured pragmatist.
In relation to dyes, I think my personal favorite touch is the Indigo used on this piece. Bright, but without the electricity of a synthetic dye, it’s a nice retreat from the more conservative color usage across the rest of the rug.
CONDITION:
Areas of wear including slight foundation exposure.
NOTES:
Kilim ends have been cut and overcasted to prevent further unraveling.
Slight variances (~1”-2”) in width.
Areas of original selvedge have been re-woven and other areas of the selvedge have been closed.
A few re-knotted areas on main field.
Four corners have areas of burlap and glue residue. Does not affect the structure of the rug.
