Antique Mahal Area Rug - 8'10" x 11'7"
#2568
AGE & ORIGIN:
Early 20th C.
Persia
OVERVIEW:
Many Mahal rugs lie at the intersection of what many are looking for in a rug. Their designs are often more geometric with a certain naiveté that reflects their cottage-industry roots, the former, much of what informs modern interior design tastes, the latter, what many connoisseurs of rugs seek them for.
While Mahals can display any number of designs, potentially the most sought after are those with all-over motifs. This also appeals to the decorated interior, as the all-over design can be slightly more liberal in its usage than, say, something with a medallion.
This particular ‘compartment’ design is not uncommon on many Fereghan rugs, a close cousin to Mahals. Excellent and uncommon turquoise and fern green accent a French blue border creating a stunning frame to the all-over fereghan-esque compartment field.
CONDITION:
Evenly Worn
NOTES:
Both ends have been secured.
Areas of the field have been rewoven.
Areas of selvedge have been repaired.
