So-called “oriental-style” hooked rugs, while not necessarily uncommon, are a nice retreat from the pictorial and more farmhouse styles more seen from this medium of American folk art. This piece would also fall into the category of a ‘rag rug’, as careful inspection of the fabric used in hooking the rug was most likely made of old clothes.
