Unusual Senneh Mat

$650.00

2645
1’-11” x 3’-2”

AGE & ORIGIN:
1st Q. 20th C.
Persia

OVERVIEW:
From the annals of Senneh Kurd memory comes one of their older designs, that of the gol-i-bolbol or ‘flower-and-bird’. Typically displayed in a larger, all-over, repeating form, here is its singular vision shrunken to an atypical mat size. Something that would be mostly lost to time in the later, mid 20th century productions and replaced with a more typical ‘Herati’ pattern in different forms.
This gol-i-bolbol displays a Rorschachian tree branching into flora with fruit, extending from top to bottom. The bush below displays the two birds resting atop, although the format has somewhat truncated one of these, typically formed as a peacock. A Senneh, comfortably small enough for wall display, and unusual enough to be warranted as one.

CONDITION:
Good with minor end loss
