Gabbeh rugs have become very popular in recent years due to their minimalism in design and slates of solid color that give them an almost art deco meets bohemian style. Interestingly, these features that we would call ‘ahead of their time’ actually came from necessity, as many ‘Gabbeh’ or, literally, ‘raw’ rugs from Persia came from nomads who would weave them from memory and thus, the less complicated the design, the better.
