NW Persian Kurdish Gallery Rug - 3’8” x 7’8”
#2539 Boteh NW Persian Kurdish Long Rug
3’-8” x 7’-8”
AGE & ORIGIN:
1st Q. 20th C.
Persia
OVERVIEW:
Sometimes, despite finding the weave of a rug to be single-wefted, there are other factors that need to be taken into account, such as the color, pile, foundation, etc. What we originally took to be a more ‘Kurdish’ Hamadan, may actually have it’s roots totally with Kurdistan.
The drawing and handle are certainly Kurdish, and the single weft may be a result of borrowed weaving techniques, or more likely, a village that was in closer proximity to SE Kurdistan made the rug using a single-wefted technique.
The color and drawing are very Kurdish, as is the shagginess of the pile. unique mustard colored borders, olive greens and sky blues within the boteh make this an appealing, if not slightly ragged old Kurdish piece.
CONDITION:
Worn; Several small patches, tears and end loss. One corner has area of dried paint creating almost dry-rot type conditions
