Antique Large Baluch Bag Face

$400.00

#2514 Baluch Bag Face
2’-6” x 2’-9”

AGE & ORIGIN:
C. 1900
Afghanistan

OVERVIEW:
There’s a belief in the areas that many of these bag faces are woven that extends back to much of the Animist traditions that these tribes come from, that of the evil eye. This is mostly understood to be the envy of your fellow man, and thus to mitigate this envy, these unique bag faces would be woven to help conceal the items within and prevent the covetousness of others.
This particular bagface displays old turkic ram’s horn motifs in the border and elements of the so-called ‘Mushwani’ design. This color scheme is more uncommon than other contemporary pieces of the time.

CONDITION:
Excellent condition with several small repairs on face
