Darjezine Lilihan Area Rug - 6’10” x 9’0”

$775.00

#2550 Darjezine Lilihan Area Rug
6’-10” x 9’-0”

AGE & ORIGIN:
C. 1940
Persia

OVERVIEW:
Darjezine was a major exporter of rugs in the early and mid 20th C. which would take on appealing designs from other districts and create a distinct version of it. This is true of this piece, and while Lilihan is certainly the main inspiration, there are aspects of the weave that are reminiscent of Malayer and Mahal rugs as well.
Many of the hallmarks of Lilihan rugs are found on this piece especially the exaggerated floral motifs arrayed in a garden pattern and small meandering guard borders.
Where higher pile of the rug remains, it is remarkably soft. This paired with the uneven, almost rudimentary weave are good indicators that this is an earlier export piece of higher quality. We have safely assumed that it is from the 1940’s but it’s very possible it’s slightly older, perhaps even 1910-1920.

CONDITION:
Some areas of foundation exposure, some discolored areas, one small area of color bleed
